"Next to God" ?
We would not claim that the old saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" suggests we are nearer a divine presence than others. However a precision engineering customer of ours would agree that cleanliness brings you nearer to profits. The oil filters on their machines were clogged up with fine swarf and dirty oil leading to overheating and increasing downtime. Having tried jet blasting and traditional solvents without success in removing the swarf they turned to us. Clearing the swarf and restoring them to almost their original state through our water based chemicals and ultrasonics we now provide a regular clean and their production manager is in "seventh heaven"!
DE-RUSTING
The rusting of machined parts is common problem in many industries. Traditional "pickling" in acid is a common method of removing rust but the strength of acids used and the "stickiness" of the oxide particles to the metal means that there is a danger of damaging the item being cleaned and not fully removing the oxide particle on the surface of the item. Ultrasonics allows the use of less aggressive acids and actively removes rust particles from the surface leaving the item completely clean and undamaged. Sonic Solutions has recently started working with one of the worlds major manufacturers of truck brake dampers to remove rust from the surface and apply a rust inhibitor prior to repacking.
O RINGS & PRECISION PARTS
A faulty O ring was the cause of the 1986 Challenger space shuttle disaster and the delicate nature of the item itself, the high level of cleanliness required, and the inability to use solvents, lends this job to ultrasonics. One of the country's leading manufacturers of O rings regularly send their high specification O rings to Sonic Solutions for cleaning and bagging. For similar reasons Sonic Solutions has also cleaned pharmaceutical dies, precision automotive parts, and even rocket parts themselves!
ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANELS
The cleaning of intricate and delicate electrical control panels is another area particularly suited to ultrasonic cleaning.
