PUWER ASSESSMENT & COMPLIANCE

(Provision & Use of Working Equipment Regulation )

In 1998 PUWER legislation was introduced in the UK by the HSE putting responsibility onto employers to ensure that their Machinery was brought up to a safe standard of operation to protect both operatives and other personnel from injury. A clear set of regulations were introduced which provided employers with clear guidelines on what was required to meet the PUWER compliance criteria

Guard-Tech Industrial Services Ltd have been working with its clients since its introduction providing PUWER assessment and PUWER compliance remedial work for some of the largest blue chip organizations in the UK.

PUWER CRITERIA

The PUWER regulations cover all parts of the machinery including maintenance and service records and below are some of the main areas covered.

  • Maintenance and periodic inspection of machines including the keeping of records
  • Prevention of access to rotating parts of machinery through adequate guarding      
  • Prevention of expulsion of materials through adequate guarding of the machine.
  • Emergency stopping of the machine through the fitting of clearly identified  emergency  Stops wired through safety monitoring relays.
  • Isolation of the machine with a clearly identified machine isolator and mains isolator which is lockable and isolates from all sources of energy.
  • The fitting of warning labels and markings to clearly identify hazards and modes of operation with identification labels.
